Should I invest in a coaching program?
Are you considering a life coach training program?
I, too, thought about it for a long time. When I finally decided to do it, I didn’t think too much about it. I was listening to a podcast and liked the host, so I did some research on her website, saw that she graduated from Martha Beck’s Wayfinder Life Coach Training Program (I thought to myself, “I enjoyed reading Martha’s books, and she’s Oprah’s life coach!”), and that was enough of a sign for me to apply.
What about for you? Do you enjoy helping others? Do you have amazing listening skills (or would like to sharpen these skills?) Perhaps you’re tired of being bound by the 9-5 schedule and want to see if coaching could lead to the path of entrepreneurship (i.e., being your own boss lady).
Technically speaking, anyone could call themselves a life coach. For me I lacked the confidence to call myself one. I wanted to gain both the confidence and competence, so the idea of being a part of a reputable program appealed to me. After going through the 9-month program, I can honestly say I have gained confidence, competence and more. What I didn’t imagine getting was a community, which I really needed it (for someone who tended to feel lonely). I got to experience one-on-one coaching, small group coaching, and big group coaching. I met people who I believe will become lifelong friends. I met people who’ve quit their jobs during the program, went through major life events, and figured out what their dream life would (for the first time ever). My colleagues worked in corporate, education, healthcare, entertainment, etc. I appreciated the diversity of my classmates and only wished I had a chance to meet every one (there were about 100+ people total). Most of all I was humbled to experience the most time with my fellow Amazing As’ group of 10 beautiful people.
Being in a coaching program also allowed for the structure and also enough flexibility to choose your own adventure. I balanced taking the program with my full-time dayjob, and while it was challenging to complete all the pre-work assignments, I made sure to try my best to show up to every class and just be a sponge - to learn, share and witness the vulnerability and relatability of being human.
For those considering enrolling in a program, clarify what the aspects that are important to you (i.e, time, money, reputation of program, the community, etc.) It will be an investment, and for me, I wholeheartedly would recommend the program to anyone. Tuition assistance may be available.
