Worrying is Unnecessary
“Worrying is unnecessary,” my grandma taught me how to say this in Teochew dialect. One of the only few phrases I know. I find myself thinking back to this phrase a lot during the past weeks, and it’s given me hope.
My dog, Summer, wasn’t doing so well (i.e., multiple vomits and constipation), and I saw how I let my happiness be tied to his. Dog mom guilt was on high alert last week. After a visit to the vet, we both felt better, and Summer has almost returned to his usual self – there’s more bounce to his walk (more “swag” as my coworker would say), he’s playful with the toys, he’s eating softened dry food with a spoonful cottage cheese, and we’re enjoying our daily walks. Yes, he is pooping now, thank goodness.
So, I’m prioritizing my self-care and asking what I need in this moment. I declined an invitation to a dinner party because I felt that it would be too stressful for me at this time. I needed to recharge. I needed peace and quiet in this moment.
What are you doing or not doing in order to nourish yourself this weekend?
