Feeling In Control
In this fast-paced world it’s so easy to overbook yourselves, live life on the go and forget to enjoy the little things. It doesn’t have to be that way all the time. That could be so tiring. Just the thought of it can make you feeling exhausted.
Have you thought about how your daily routine is? This week I’m reflecting more on my morning and evening routines and the fact that if I’m more intentional during those times, I’d feel more in control and less stressed. Granted that you might not be able to schedule in a three-hour massage every night, but you could take 5-15 minutes to do something for YOU. My mom’s friend puts a sign on the door, so the family doesn’t disturb her while she practices guitar daily. I practice meditation in the backyard and warn everyone that that’s what I’ll be doing for the next 30 minutes. This is your special time and once you set the boundaries, others will adjust.
Pro tip: if you don’t know what to do during this special/self-care/sacred time, think back to how you spent your time during childhood and do that.
Here are a few ideas on how you can feel more in control of your daily routine:
Communicate to others that you’ll be having your alone/self-care/sacred/special time, whatever you call it.
Put your tech devices out of sight. Your mind and body need a rest from the digital slot machine.
Keep a consistent practice (whether it’s 5, 15, 30, or 60 minutes a day). Keep it realistic. Start small.
Reward yourself.
Repeat.
Regardless of what happens during the day, you know you can reset and feel better about yourself when you stick to a daily routine that meets your needs. Only you know what makes you feel good.
