Who is Calm Corner?
Calm Corner was created by Dr. Alisa Chatprapachai, a mental health, mindfulness, and wellness advocate. Dr. Alisa works with people from age 0-97 with the goal of spreading calm and mindful awareness in every day life. An occupational therapist by trade, Dr. Alisa wears many hats and makes sure she is living a meaningful life, one breath at a time.
Dr. Alisa knows how hard life can be. She hopes to inspire others to create calm for themselves, to be present in daily activities and enjoy each moment as it is.
After graduating from with a clinical doctorate degree from the USC Chan School of Occupational Therapy and Science in 2014, Dr. Alisa had difficulty transitioning into adulthood and all the responsibilities that came with “adulting.” She experienced signs of depression such as not wanting to go to get out of bed and neglecting her self-care for a few months. Then in January 2015 she found meditation, what she calls her “miracle drug.” Through meditation she began to be mindful, love herself more and advocated for what her body, mind and spirit need. She began to develop more willpower and compassion. She continues to practice meditation every day. Dr. Alisa is a certified meditation instructor from The Willpower Institute.
When she’s taking care of herself, Dr. Alisa is able to fully dedicate time to her family, friends, clients and the community at large. She works as an occupational therapist (OT) in the clinic, at school and at home with children and their families as well as older adults in the home. She considers the her job the best in the world because she gets paid to play and keep her clients safe in their natural environments while she gets to share her interests with them.
Dr. Alisa is a true believer in giving back to the community. She volunteers her time with the Thai American community, serves on her local mental health board and holds a leadership position with the California Association of Local Behavioral Health Boards and Commissions.
