Honoring yourself this summer

Summer is just around the corner. It’s a great time to be explore new things, stir the pot a little bit and create change if you want to. Summer, for me, means a time for endless possibilities. The sun is out longer (hopefully) and there is so much to do in a seemingly short time. Knowing that there is so much to accomplish, why not fine tune your focus? Make time for what really matters.

One thing that you could do right now is create your non-negotiables, these are habits you have to do consistently, no matter what. What is one thing you could do on a daily basis that makes you feel good? Forget about others for a second. What makes your heart jump for joy? What gives you inner peace? What turns your frown upside down? Do that. Make time for that. No excuses. Find ways to modify the activity, but STILL DO IT.

Here’s how to make it work:

For example, my goal is to practice meditation every day. Now, sometimes I get caught up in the day-to-day events, that I leave meditation until bedtime, and sometimes, my body is just so exhausted. I usually commit to a sitting meditation practice. Instead of beating myself up for it, I can practice sleeping meditation, focusing on my mantra or breath.

What one new habit will you add today? Let’s take care of ourselves before we take care of others.
